NEIU COBM Undergraduate Program Learning Goals and Supporting General Learning Objectives

Learning Goal 1: Our students demonstrate functional competence in core business disciplines of management, marketing, accounting and finance.

GLO 1.1   (Management): Our students demonstrate an understanding of the management processes.

GLO 1.2   (Marketing): Our students demonstrate an understanding of the marketing process.

GLO 1.3   (Accounting):  Our students demonstrate an understanding of the accounting and reporting process.

GLO 1.4   (Finance): Our students demonstrate an understanding of the financial decision process

Learning Goal 2: Our students demonstrate effective communication skills.

GLO 2.1   Our students demonstrate effective written and oral communication skills, appropriate for a business professional.

GLO 2.2   Our students are able to use technology to communicate effectively in team and individual settings.

Learning Goal 3: Our students demonstrate effective problem solving and decision making skills.

GLO 3.1   Our students possess the quantitative, analytical, and reflective thinking skills necessary to evaluate and solve business problems and make sound business decisions.

Learning Goal 4:  Our students demonstrate knowledge to function as a successful professional in a local or global business environment.

GLO 4.1: Our students demonstrate an understanding of leadership, diversity, ethical issues, and the legal environment, as they relate to the global business environment

Learning Goal 1: We prepare students from a wide range of cultural, ethnic and international backgrounds to assume leadership positions in a global, multicultural business environment.

GLO 1.1: Our students develop a comprehensive understanding of managing firms in a diverse and dynamic global marketplace in each of the core areas of business.

GLO 1.2:  Our students develop skills in teamwork and written/oral communication, including virtual settings.

Learning Goal 2: Our students develop sensitivity to ethical issues and to the demands of a complex, global business environment

GLO 2.1: Our students develop an understanding of ethical problems faced in business.

Learning Goal 3: Our students apply knowledge and skills in various business environments in making managerial decisions.

GLO 3.1: Our students develop analytical problem-solving and decision-making skills through integrating theory and application in a variety of management situations.

Learning Goal 1: Our students acquire competencies to apply appropriate accounting knowledge to critically analyze and solve business problems in a dynamic global business environment.

GLO 1.1: Our students develop competencies in managerial accounting, financial accounting, tax accounting, auditing, and accounting research methods.

GLO 1.2: Our students develop analytical problem-solving and decision-making skills to facilitate sound business decision making.

GLO 1.3: Our students acquire the ability to critically analyze and evaluate current knowledge in the accounting field.

Learning Goal 2: Our students develop social sensitivities to function in a complex and global business environment.

GLO 2.1: Our students develop an understanding of ethical problems faced by business executives and possible solutions to such problems to guide sound managerial decision-making.
