Research Interests 
Dr. Wilfredo Alvarez's research explores ideological and material consequences stemming from prevailing meanings about social identity categories (race, social class, immigration status, gender, sexuality, (dis)ability, and age). Specifically, Dr. Alvarez studies how communication practices (at both macro and micro levels of interaction) create, maintain, and resist systems of discrimination, oppression, and social inequality.
