The Social Work Program is proud to share the first senior gift, presented to the Social Work Program in May 2013. The inspirational mural by Stephanie Grisby titled “Stepping into Greatness” can be viewed outside of the Social Work Program suite in LWH 3077.

PROGRAM NEWS

The Social Work Program has recently expanded its BASW course offerings to students pursing their degree in Lake County at the University Center beginning Fall 2013, because of the increasing demands of students enrolled in our Social Work Program at the main campus, El Centro campus and CCICS.

Students in the News

Keith Green, class of 2005, is participating in a Ph.D. Program at SSA-University of Chicago, pursing a degree with a focus on policy and HIV/AIDS (http://www.windycitymediagroup.com/gay/lesbian/news/ARTICLE.php?AID=32043).

Charliene Mabin, class of 2009, continues to write poetry and speak on behalf of women who have lost their child to challenges of mental health and well-being (http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2012-05-07/news/ct-met--trice-mothers-day-0507-20120507_1_mental-illness-young-black-men-suicide-rate).

Alumni

More than 2,000 Northeastern Illinois University alumni graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in social work.

Northeastern’s social work alumni can be found in many public and private organizations or institutions. They work in all areas of social work, including child protective services, hospitals, hospice, domestic violence services, agencies providing service to individuals who are homeless, policy making agencies, research institutions, prisons and other areas of corrections, adoption services, schools, public welfare agencies, nursing homes, independent and assisted living facilities, mental health services, substance abuse, private practice, family counseling, local and state government, forensics, rehabilitation veterans services, developmental disabilities support, Head Start, early childhood intervention, aging and gerontology services and community organization. In short, alumni from the Northeastern Illinois University Social Work Program can be found in almost every area of the profession, helping people across the entire life span.
