Assistant Professor of Theatre - Emphasis in Directing and Performance
The Department of Communication, Media and Theatre at Northeastern Illinois University invites applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Theatre to begin Fall 2018. We seek applicants who demonstrate the ability to teach introductory theatre courses as well as advanced courses in performance such as Directing and Acting as well as courses related to the candidate’s area(s) of specialty.
The successful applicant will be expected to collaborate with technical/artistic staff, direct at least one main stage show per year, and to take on leadership roles in the Theatre area such as Managing Artistic Director or leading the Children’s Theatre Workshop. This hire will be an enthusiastic contributor to a vibrant department with a strong commitment to program development, teaching excellence, and the desire to work with both undergraduate and graduate students. Preference will be given to candidates who are prepared to teach in a diverse educational setting and who can demonstrate successful community outreach.

- M.F.A. in Theatre or Ph.D. in Theatre with significant directing experience
- Primary strength in directing
- Secondary strength in acting, theatre management, dialects, or other areas of performance
- Evidence of artistic achievement in professional directing or acting
- Evidence of excellence in teaching
- Evidence of continuing creative work and/or research commensurate with earning tenure at NEIU
- Demonstrated success working in highly collaborative environments
- Demonstrated ability to build interdisciplinary and community partnerships
