For the safety and well-being of our NEIU community, it was announced on Aug. 9, 2021 that the University will implement a vaccination requirement for all students who are taking classes or working on campus or living in The Nest. The decision is based on the recommendations provided by the Illinois Board of Higher Education and reflects similar decisions made by other colleges and universities in Illinois and nationwide. Students are required to be vaccinated or demonstrate progress towards full vaccination, such as receiving the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine by the first day of class on Aug. 23, 2021.

Non-vaccinated or vaccination exempt students will need to be tested weekly until this new requirement ends or the student is fully vaccinated and has submitted their full vaccination record.

In order to promote the highest level of safety and security for the University community, it is critical that students comply promptly with this new requirement based on the rising number of COVID-19 cases.

Disclosure/Verification

All students are required to disclose their COVID-19 vaccination status to Student Health Services. Specifically:

  1. All vaccinated students will complete an attestation form verifying their vaccination status.
    • All students vaccinated in the State of Illinois including VA, military-run county sites or mass vaccination sites in Illinois will be verified through the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) vaccination registry by Student Health Services. A submission of vaccination card/record is not necessary.
      • If Student Health Services is unable to verify vaccination status through IDPH, the student will be notified by Student Health Services and will need to submit their vaccination record to the health portal for verification. The health portal will be available Aug. 16, 2021.
    • All students vaccinated in other states or countries will need to submit their vaccination record to Student Health Services via the health portal for verification. The health portal will be available on Aug. 16, 2021.
  2. Students who require an exemption will need to complete and submit an exemption form to Student Health Services via the health portal. The health portal will be available on Aug. 16, 2021.
    • A Student Health Services advanced practice registered nurse will review and certify validity of the exemption.
    • Non-vaccinated or vaccination exempt students will be tested weekly until this new requirement ends or the student is fully vaccinated.
    • All testing results will be submitted to Student Health Services via the health portal for verification. The health portal will be available on Aug. 16, 2021.
      • All results submitted must have the student’s name, date of service, and results on the same page.
  3. Student Health Services will report all student compliance and non-compliance to the office of the Vice President of Student Affairs and Dean of Students.
  4. Non-compliance with weekly testing requirements will be reported to the Dean of Students as an incident report that may result in adjudication for student misconduct and non-compliance to university policy and guidelines.
