For the safety and well-being of our NEIU community, it was announced on Aug. 9, 2021 that the University will implement a vaccination requirement for all employees.The decision is based on the recommendations provided by the Illinois Board of Higher Education and reflects similar decisions made by other colleges and universities in Illinois and nationwide. All employees are required to be vaccinated or demonstrate progress towards full vaccination, such as receiving the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine by the first day of class on Aug. 23, 2021. In order to promote the highest level of safety and security for the University community, it is critical that employees comply promptly with this new requirement based on the rising number of COVID-19 cases. Non-vaccinated or vaccination exempt employees will need to be tested weekly until this new requirement ends or the student is fully vaccinated and has submitted their full vaccination record.

  1. All vaccinated employees will complete an attestation form verifying their vaccination status.
    • All employees vaccinated in the State of Illinois including VA, military-run county sites or mass vaccination sites in Illinois will be verified through the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) vaccination registry by Student Health Services. A submission of vaccination card/record is not necessary.
      • If Student Health Services is unable to verify vaccination status through IDPH, the employee will be notified by Student Health Services and will need to submit their vaccination record to the health portal for verification. The health portal will be available Aug. 16, 2021.
    • All employees vaccinated in other states or countries will need to submit their vaccination record to Student Health Services via the health portal for verification. The health portal will be available on Aug. 16, 2021.
  2. Employees who require an exemption will need to complete and submit an exemption form to Student Health Services via the health portal. The health portal will be available on Aug. 16, 2021.
    • A Student Health Services advanced practice registered nurse will review and certify validity of the exemption. 
    • Non-vaccinated or vaccination exempt employees will be tested weekly until this new requirement ends or the employee is fully vaccinated.
    • All testing results will be submitted to Student Health Services via the health portal for verification. The health portal will be available on Aug. 16, 2021.
    • All results submitted must have the employee’s name, date of service, and results on the same page.
  3. Student Health Services will report all employee compliance and non-compliance to Human Resources.
  4. Non-compliance with weekly testing requirements will result in a reporting of failure to test or submit test results to supervisors notation in the employee’s personnel file, and may result in potential disciplinary action up to and including termination, depending on the circumstances and number of such failures.
