Northeastern Illinois University is strictly enforcing its plan to limit on-site and travel activities for faculty, staff and students. However, some exceptions are being made for critically important research and creative activities (RCA) that need to occur during Phase 3 and Phase 4 of Northeastern’s Return to Work plan. Additionally, the University is developing plans for a limited number of courses that require some on-site activities for the Fall 2020 semester, as well as supporting the transition of courses to remote instruction.

In order to support and facilitate these efforts, the Office of the Provost has created a Provost’s Fall Transition Steering Committee that is focused on all RCA and instructional planning needed to prepare for the Fall 2020 semester.

The Lab/Studio Team, a sub-team of the Provost’s Fall Transition Steering Committee, is responsible for supporting the development of RCA and instructional phase-in plans that relate to activities that require the use of specific spaces either on or off campus. They are also developing resource materials that support the transition of courses to remote instruction. These plans and support materials encompass two different types of activities that have a certain degree of overlap:

  • Fall 2020 Instructional Lab/Studio/Experiential Learning
  • Return-to-campus for Research and Creative Activities

Task Force Organizational Chart

Three working groups that work directly with program faculty and chairs have been established to develop these phase-in plans:

Click the links on each working group for more information about processes, timelines and Working Group membership.

The guiding principles of these working groups are:

  • Maintain the safety of all the constituencies that participate in NEIU’s activities
  • Phase in activities that are important elements of NEIU’s mission that cannot be conducted as effectively remotely
  • Conduct as many functions remotely as possible until NEIU enters Phase 5
