A message from President Gloria J. Gibson, March 11, 2021
I would like to thank students, faculty and staff for your dedication to Northeastern Illinois University in this difficult year of COVID-19. Your flexibility, understanding and perseverance during these unprecedented times inspire optimism, and instill confidence in the strength and resilience of the NEIU community. The University can take pride in its response to the pandemic.
Now, as the COVID-19 vaccines become more widely available, and the city and state move forward with reopening plans, we plan to resume in-person classroom instruction when NEIU’s fall semester begins on Aug. 23.
I can assure you that our commitment to the safety of students, faculty and staff is paramount to our Fall 2021 plan. With the guidance of federal, state and local medical professionals, and Northeastern’s COVID-19 Task Force, we are currently in the process of devising a return-to-campus plan to mitigate any on-campus spread of COVID-19. We will share more information about the plan as it takes shape.
It is because of each of you, your compassion and your commitment to academic excellence, that I am confident we will be able to hold in-person classes in the coming academic year. As information about COVID-19 evolves, we will adjust our expectations and modify our plans accordingly.
At Northeastern, we understand the important role that community and shared experiences play in academic successes. We know this is especially true for our first-time college students, who are looking forward to being on-campus for face-to-face instruction and the experience of campus life. We also know that many of our students prefer in-person learning and the ability to participate in university activities. We will work diligently to welcome as many students to campus as is safely possible for in-person instruction.
As we progress through the spring and summer semesters, you will continue to receive regular updates from the COVID-19 Task Force regarding return-to-campus plans. Please be sure to review the COVID-19 website, and reach out to the Task Force with questions. Above all, please continue to take care of yourself and utilize the resources available to you through Northeastern as needed.
