Full Time, Continuing Position

The Coordinator of Student Success and Social Media at Northeastern Illinois University El Centro is a full-time, continuing position that is primarily responsible for providing academic coaching/guidance, and leading retention initiatives of NEIU El Centro students, as well as the planning and coordination of the student success initiatives including but not limited to the Guidance, Inspiration and Academic Support (GUIAS) Mentoring Program. Other responsibilities include: overseeing the social media activities for El Centro, including the Website, Facebook and Twitter accounts.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Coordinator of Student Success and Social Media reports to the Director of El Centro and the Assistant Director of Student Support Services; and the Director of El Centro, in turn, reports to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. The Coordinator of Student Success and Social Media will create and implement programs and services aimed at the retention, academic persistence and graduation of students; will coach, mentor and provide guidance/advice to students on course requirements necessary for specific courses within the General Education and/or different academic departments, and programs, with an emphasis on majors offered at El Centro; and will orient students about general University policies and procedures as well as assist them with referrals to other departments as necessary.

The Coordinator of Student Success and Social Media will also serve as the maintainer for the new website for El Centro; will be responsible for updating and maintaining NEIU El Centro’s Social Media daily across multiple channels (Facebook and Twitter); including responding to comments made on social media platforms and executing posts on all of the El Centro Social Media accounts; and will brainstorm ideas for new social media campaigns and projects to make El Centro more visible to a larger audience.

The Coordinator of Student Success and Social Media will manage large amounts of data including gathering and tracking program participation, evaluation data and reports; will plan and coordinate student success initiatives; and will provide students with educational and career coaching.

This position requires excellent customer service skills, as it will regularly interface with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and other collaborators across the university, but especially with the Academic Advisement, Financial Aid, Career Development Center, and Marketing Offices at the main campus; and the Coordinator of Student Success and Social Media will also communicate with Faculty to identify at-risk students and their needs, to ensure students make a seamless transition when admitted to NEIU.

The Coordinator of Student Success and Social Media will also share responsibility with other coordinators for supervision of support staff, students and graduate assistants; will assist with overall operation of Northeastern Illinois University El Centro and provide customer service assistance/technical assistance in the reception area when needed from faculty, students and the community at large; and will perform other duties as directed or assigned by the Director of El Centro Campus.

The Coordinator will also take part in other special projects as part of the overall continued growth and development of the El Centro’s student success initiatives.

This position requires flexible scheduling and will include weekend and evening hours, as required by El Centro needs.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in a relevant area such as higher education administration, student affairs, counseling/social work etc. Experience working in a culturally diverse academic environment for at least two years in financial aid/registration setting, as well as all students, faculty, staff, alumni, and other campus constituents. Ability to collaborate effectively with college departments and cross-functional teams. Proficiency with computer applications (Banner) and ability to use technology to enhance student experience (mastery of social media platforms and Website development). A positive attitude and ability to plan and adapt to change. Ability to provide reports and assessments in a timely manner. Creative, energetic, and responsible leadership skills through a strong student centered philosophy. Effective interpersonal and communication skills. Competency and fluency speaking, writing and reading in English and Spanish required and a demonstrated ability to converse comfortably with various constituencies.

Salary and Benefits

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Comprehensive benefits package including health, dental and vision benefits, sick and vacation days, and participation in the State Universities Retirement System. Applicants are expected to respond based on the entire job description.
