The Assistant to the Vice President for Student Affairs is responsible for providing high level management support to enable the efficient performance of the official duties of the Vice President for Student Affairs, particularly as it is related to coordinating the office operations, human resources functions, and budgets in the Vice Presidential area, and supervising the office staff of Student Affairs.

Duties and Responsibilities
The Assistant to the Vice President for Student Affairs reports to the Vice President for Student Affairs, who in turn, reports to the President. The Assistant to the Vice President for Student Affairs will coordinate the responsibilities of the Vice President with other division offices and staff, including managing the calendar of the Vice President; will prepare, manage, and maintain the Student Affairs budgets, and provide areas with the master budget upon completion; will assist in the coordination of all Human Resources paperwork; will coordinate and implement policy decisions; and will manage the operations of the office of the Vice President for Student for Student Affairs.
The Assistant to the Vice President for Student Affairs will originate and prepare routine and special reports and studies; will oversee or conduct special projects; will function as a trouble-shooter; will represent the Vice President at campus/university functions, committees, meetings, and in correspondence as needed; will consult with and advise the Vice President; will orchestrate all administrative support for the office of the Vice President for Student Affairs, including all Civil Service and student worker supervision; and will participant in short and long-range planning and goal-setting exercises.
The Assistant to the Vice President for Student Affairs will also investigate issues, consult with involved parties, and provide advice regarding various options for action; will handle a variety of sensitive and confidential assignments and projects on behalf of the Vice President; will conceive and administer special programs and projects under the direction of the Vice President; will administer employee performance evaluations; will work with Finance and Administration to prepare an Audit Finding Corrective Action Plan; will coordinate the verification of the Economic Interest Statements; and will collaborate with the Office of Human Resources to ensure that A&P Annual evaluations are completed in accordance with deadlines.
The Assistant to the Vice President for Student Affairs must interact with diverse constituencies across the University (e.g. Divisional Departments, Office of University Budgets, Office of Human Resources/Payroll, and all Student Affairs financial managers). The Assistant to the Vice President for Student Affairs will supervise the Civil Service and student staff, in the office of Student Affairs; and will serve as the division’s policy coordinator, as well as, coordinate all project management, and fulfill other duties as assigned by the Vice President, while handling sensitive information with the utmost confidentiality.
Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred and five years’ experience in higher education or related field. The incumbent must demonstrate expertise in office operations, budgetary planning and day-to-day implementation, and human resources functions. Strong organizational skills and exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, as well as, exceptional skills in public relations are all required. Experience in an urban commuter and/or community college, and/or university setting is preferred.
Salary and Benefits
Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Comprehensive benefits package including health, dental and vision benefits, sick and vacation days, and participation in the State Universities Retirement System.
