Noteworthy at Northeastern: Getting ready for graduation

Northeastern will host a series of virtual Commencement ceremonies on May 9 to honor its Spring 2021 graduates. Plus, Psychology students and alumni presented at a national conference, NEIU Libraries are looking for student submissions for their COVID-19 archive, and there are self-care tips and virtual study sessions all next week to help students prepare for finals.

Noteworthy at Northeastern: A step in the right direction

The conviction of Derek Chauvin for the murder of George Floyd made headlines across the country. Here at Northeastern, President Gloria J. Gibson issued a statement regarding the verdict and called on everyone to work together “to ensure our government enacts the changes and reforms needed to end violence against people of color.” In other news, the 2021 NEIU Libraries Awards for Excellence in Research have been announced, Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) Heritage Month and Stress-Free Zone activities wrap up next week, and a number of virtual events, including virtual study sessions, are scheduled. In this week’s edition of Noteworthy at Northeastern, Professor Chielozona Eze discusses his new book, “Justice and Human Rights in the African Imagination: We, Too, Are Humans.” Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) Heritage Month and Stress-Free Zone activities continue throughout April. Plus, learn about forest bathing as a form of self-care and a great way to celebrate Arbor Day.

Professor Chielozona Eze publishes fifth book, “Justice and Human Rights in the African Imagination: We, Too, Are Humans”

The book, which was released April 15 and is available to read online, centers on the works of African writers, scholars, artists and activists and their pursuits for justice in various forms, namely environmental, social, intimate, and restorative.
