Course           Introduction to Analytic Geometry, limits and derivatives,
Description      applications, integration, fundamental Theorem of Calculus.
 
Cource           Students will
Objectives       1.  Develop the ability to use graphical numerical and
 and algebraic reasoning in the analysis of mathematical
 problems
                 2.  Gain deeper understanding of the elementary functions
 and improve algebraic and trigonometric skills.
                 3.  Master the terminology, concepts and methodology of
 differential and integral calculus
                 4.  Be able to differentiate functions constructed from
 elementary functions
                 5.  Be able to use the derivative and integral to set up  
 and solve mathematical models from verbal descriptions
                 6.  Improve communication skills by writing up problem
 solutions and participating in class discussions
 
Method Lectures, question and answer sessions, moderated individ- 
of Instruction ual and group problem solving sessions, hand-in problem 
 assignments, regular use of technology in and out of the
 classroom.
 
Homework:        Homework assignment will be announced at end of every class. 
                 I will check your homework with quizzes every class day and 
                 will be graded. Quizzes will be for 100 points and can be used
 to substitute either Exam 1 or Exam 2.
 
Exams: Exam 1:      Monday, June 5,  2:00-3:00pm, 100 points 
 Exam 2:      Monday, June 19, 2:00-3:00pm, 100 points
 Skill Test:  06/14-06/26,                100 points
                    (Skill Test consists of 10 derivative problems, 10 points
 each, no partial credit. If the total is below 80, then
 the score is automatically 0. Skill test can be repeated 
 many times until June 26)
 
 Final Exam:  Wedesday, June 28, 3:00-5:00 pm, 200 points
 
Method           Evaluation of your performance in the course is based on
of Evaluation    two mid-term Exams, quizzes, Skill Test and the Final Exam. 
                 With the lowest score among the mid-term exams and quizzes 
 being dropped, The total number of points is 500.
 
Grading:         90-100% (450-500 pts): A, 80-89%(400-449 pts): B, 
                 65-79% (325-399 pts): C, 55-64%(275-324 pts): D
