Northeastern Illinois University - TRIO Student Support Services

TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) has a proven record of accomplishment! Nationally, TRIO SSS participants are twice as likely to remain in college and graduate as those students from similar background who did not participate in TRIO SSS. By actively participating in TRIO, students meet Northeastern Illinois University academic expectations while also fulfilling their educational, career, and personal goals.

Services include intrusive advising, one-to-one and group tutoring, financial guidance, and personal support. TRIO SSS’s high advisor-to-student ratio and individualized education plans assure faculty that students accessing TRIO SSS services receive timely academic interventions. Faculty may make referrals at any time during the semester.

Academic Advising

TRIO Student Support Services assigns an academic advisor to all TRIO participants. Through you advisor you will receive
•    Holistic advising that supports your academic, social, and personal development
•    Support in creating a Student Success plan every semester
•    Priority Registration
•    Assistance in course selection on track toward graduation
•    Support in selecting a major and choosing a career path
•    Assistance in applying to graduate school, if desired
•    Help in resume writing and scholarship essays

Tutoring

TRIO Student Support Services offers tutoring in math, writing, and reading, the Illinois Test of Academic Proficiency (Basic Skills Test), and selected content areas.

We offer software such as Rosetta Stone (Spanish), Dragon Naturally Speaking, and other programs to support student learning.

Student may also check out laptops for use in the Library.

TRIO Student Support Services provide academic, financial, and personal development workshops and activities throughout the year. Topics include

•    Organization and Time Management
•    Stress Reduction

•    Annual Leadership Summit

TRIO Scholarship

Every spring semester, TRIO SSS awards 24 participation scholarships.
