  • ANCIENT ANCESTRAL TEACHINGS FROM MANY CULTURES
"The whole idea of pilgrimage is translating into a literal, physical act - the pilgrimage of moving into the center of your own heart."(From Joseph Campbell's Transformations of Myths through Time.) Take time for yourself to come, sit, listen, and learn from respected elders from many cultures. The open space format beginning Friday evening will help build a sense of community by having the elders and participants agree on the direction, content, and format of the weekend. A peace pole will be planted as part of the closing ceremony Sunday morning. Traditional Native American food will be prepared and shared at some of the meals.

    LOCATION:
White Oak Hunting Lodge ** located near Marion, Kentucky 1540 Cedar Grove Rd.
    Salem, Kentucky 42078
    Phone# 270-988-3820

( Go to Mapquest.com for specific directions.)  From Illinois or Indiana, pick up Route 1 south to Cave-in-the-Rock. The ferry across the Ohio river only runs to 9 pm. After 9 pm you will need to find an alternative route.
(If people need to cross the river after 9:00pm:
Take 57 south to Marion, IL.2.  Exit hwy 13 and go East.  If you need gas or coffee, get it now because there are few stations open late at night east of here, until you get to Marion.  If you are late at night going through the countryside, pull over when you get to the Shawnee National Forest.  Turn off the engine and the lights and look at the stars and listen to the evening, it's an unforgetable experience.3.  You will pass a N/S Hwy #! which you would take if you were going to take the ferry.  This time, you will go past the stop, and go straight past Shawneetown until you cross the river on a bridge without a toll.  Hwy 13 becomes Hwy 56 on the other side.4.  In a couple of minutes, you will intersect with Hwy 109, go south to Sturgis.5.  In Sturgis, intersect with either/or Hwys 141  /  60 going south into Marion.  I41 becomes 60?6.  Hwy 60 will bring you right into downtown Marion.  There is a gas station on the town square corner that is open 24 hours. Hope this helps.)

SLEEPING QUARTERS: It is a VERY rustic setting. It is a hunting lodge. There are 28 comfortable beds, but they are all located in a common space on the second floor. Beds are on a first come basis.

CAMPING and RV: Rustic camping is available. If you have all you own equipment, this may be the perfect way for you to enjoy the weekend. The cost for this camping space is $10.00 per night.

RV HOOKUPS: there are three electrical hookups for RVs. These are on a first come basis. More hook ups can be provided, but we would need to know two weeks in advance. The electric hookup is $10.00 per night.

LOCAL LODGING: Within 7 miles of the hunting lodge is an inn and a B&B with plenty of space if you choose to lodge off site. You need to call and make the reservations on your own. MARION INN: (270) 965-5391 or MYERS B&B: (270) 965-3731.

HANDICAP NEEDS: If you are staying at the hunting lodge, all beds are located on the second floor . If this poses any problem, please contact Dan Creely, Jr. at (773) 442-5564, or you may e-mail him at d-creely@neiu.edu.

AIRPORT INFORMATION: The closest large airport is Evansville, IN. If you provide your flight information, we will do the best we can to have someone pick you up and transport you to the gathering. Contact Dan Creely, Jr. at (773) 442-5564, or you may e-mail him at d-creely@neiu.edu. On Sunday, to give yourself enough time, make sure that your flight does not leave before 3:00 p.m.

WHAT TO BRING: a lawn chair to sit on, your own blanket, and bug spray. Bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper and are located in the lodge. Sheets will be provided. There are two bath rooms and shower rooms in the lodge. Also, bring swim suits and personal towels in case unplanned opportunities come available over the weekend.

This event will manifest one of the ancient prophecies as this peace ceremony unfolds. This experience will bring closure to the weekend, but it will also launch a new beginning to the center and the thousands of people who will visit in the future: By physically planting the Peace Pole and sending out intentions for peace through the Fire, we will have sent out another ripple effect. Like dropping a pebble in a still pond, the energy will radiate out in gentle concentric rings and spread throughout the cosmos.

    Workshop 2:

Discovering Your Piece of the Puzzle, Healing Through Nature
    Saturday, November 20, 2004.
A Day for environmentally conscious educators and citizens.

One of the ways in which the ripple effect can begin its journey outward is through education.  In partnership with Rita Hickman of the Crystal Lake Illinois Park District's Nature Center, the Raven's Way is assisting in sponsoring the second annual environmental symposium, Discovering Your Piece of the Puzzle, Healing Through Nature on Saturday, November 20, 2004.  The symposium will begin at 9:15 AM.  An informal "meet and greet" session over a continental breakfast will precede the event.  Symposium registration fees include lunch.

This year's symposium theme, Healing Through Nature, transcends traditional environmental conservation to focus on allowing its participants to reconnect with the earth, with each other and with themselves.  We will have a panel of presenters/facilitators who through their life's experiences will show the healing powers of the natural world.  The symposium will take place at the Crystal Lake Illinois Park District's Nature Center.  The Nature Center is an optimal facility for such an event.  Located amongst protected wetlands, woodlands, and prairie, the Nature Center is an ideal year-round refuge for all.

Fees are $12 resident, $18 nonresident.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION: For ALL information on registration and fees, please contact the Crystal Lake Park District Nature Center at 815-455-1763, or e-mail Ron Eberle at TheRavensWay@aol.com.
