Are you looking for a way to contribute to your community?  Roots & Shoots
is the Jane Goodall Institute’s environmental and humanitarian program for
youth.  The mission of Roots & Shoots is to foster respect and compassion
for all living things, to promote understanding of all cultures and beliefs
and to inspire each individual to take action to make the world a better
place for animals, the environment and the human community.

Dr. Goodall believes that the future is in the hands of the world’s young
people.  Founded in Tanzania in 1991, Roots & Shoots groups are now found in
all US states and in over 50 countries throughout the world. Each group
chooses an activity  or project based on the interests of the group members
that focuses on either care for the environment, care for the animals, or
care for the community.

Look for Roots & Shoots representatives to share their stories at the 2003
TEAM conference.  The active service of each child is rooted in the
understanding that each individual matters, that every individual has a role
to play and that every individual makes a difference.  Dr. Jane Goodall sums
up her reason for hope in her vision of Roots & Shoots.

Roots creep underground everywhere and make a firm foundation. Shoots seem
very weak, but to reach the light they can break open brick walls.  Imagine
that the brick walls are all the problems we have inflicted on our planet.

Hundreds and thousands of roots and shoots, hundreds and thousands of young
people around the world, can break through these walls.

You CAN change the world
