Education Reflective Summary
By Nancy Kearney Adventure Education has influenced me in many ways. I learned more about teambuilding. I know I will use this method when I become a teacher because it gives the students and teachers a chance to learn more about each other, and it can be applied outside of the classroom into everyday life. I think schools across the country should incorporate this method into classrooms because the students will start to work together and gain more respect and appreciation for each other, while also learning more about trust and commitment and still having fun. I think fun is always an important aspect because it will get the students more interested, enthusiastic, and motivated to learn. Facilitating gave me more confidence in myself again. I believe more in myself because I get to practice how to facilitate a group again. It has been awhile since I have coached or facilitated any group, so I was really nervous. I am happy to get back into the game and start coaching again. I think
the rope-climbing workshop was the best experience to me I was really
happy to see the students who were not so athletic climbing the walls faster
than their peers; and I was also proud of the students who were very nervous
but accomplished their fears and continued climbing the wall to the top.
I felt really good when I learned to tie the ropes on my own. This
experience taught me about trust, commitment, and most importantly, safety.
I am lucky to be able to have learned and experienced so much in just one
semester.
