Born in New York City, Jane traveled to Chicago for graduate school in
social work.
Jane has an M.A. from the School of Social Service Administration at the
University of Chicago, l974. She is a member of the National Association of
Social Workers, has her A.C.S.W., and her L.C.S.W. After graduating Jane worked
in a community-based youth agency with girls in a group home and with a DCFS
contract to deinstitutionalize adolescents. Jane then become the Clinical
Director of a adolescent drug treatment program in Chicago for several
years. During that period of time, she received advance training in
Gestalt therapy, brief therapy training and become a Clinical Supervisor for
AAMFT. Jane has been at Northeastern Illinois University since 1980 part-time
and then full time since 1985. She has particular expertise
and training in Solution-Focused Brief Therapy and specializes in family
therapy. She has published numerous articles on the subject and two books.
The first book, Becoming Solution-Focused in Brief Therapy has been nationally
and internationally received by the professional community having been published
in three languages. Her second book,
shown below, was published in spring of 2000. It is about how to think about
doing counseling so that it is effective in the shortest period of time.
Jane teaches Introduction to Social Work, the practice course, the human
behavior in the social environment courses, social work with families and social
work with groups.
