Gerri Outlaw joined the Northeastern Illinois University Social Work faculty in 1999. Professor Outlaw is an experience social work educator and has taught in the research and social welfare policy curricular areas. She has also taught women's health, cross cultural practice and community based practice.

Gerri was instrumental in the formation of a consortium of West Side HIV/AIDS providers to improve and expand serves to Westside communities severely affected by the AIDS crisis. She has done extensive community-based and collaborative research, planning and development to promote community health awareness and HIV and AIDS prevention and education. Professor Outlaw's community work has enriched her teaching and scholarship in the academy where the synthesis of social welfare research and policy are integrated in the classroom to enhance student learning. Ms. Outlaw has published her research in area of community health and presented at numerous professional conferences.

Gerri received her B.A. degrees in Sociology and the MSW from the University of Illinois at Chicago and is currently completing her dissertation at Northern Illinois University in Counseling Adult and Health Education.
