Tartuffe

By: Moliere
Translated By: Richard Wilbur

Spring 2003

Moliere's comic masterpiece delights in poking fun at religious hypocrites. Orgon, the husband and father, foolishly entrusts  all he has, including his daughter, to a con artist out take it all.

However, as in most classic comedy, the villain gets what he  deserves and lovers are united.

“They set the sign of the cross over their
outer doors, and sacrifice to their gut
and their groin in their inner closets.”
Ben Jonson
