Services available from the Office of Sponsored Programs:
Information on Grant Opportunities
- Regularly notify
faculty of external funding opportunities through Resources ,
a bimonthly newsletter, as well as targeted announcements.
- Maintain
reference materials on funding sources.
- Identify sources
of funding (federal, state, and local government and private) for
specific projects.
- Obtain
applications and guidelines from granting agencies for institutional and
individual award programs.
- Conduct funding
searches through IRIS, Illinois Research Information System, a
computerized database containing over 4,000 opportunities funded by
federal agencies, private and corporate foundations, and other
organizations.
Agency Liaison
- Communicate by
telephone and mail with granting agencies for program information,
application forms, budget information, deadlines, program officers,
telephone numbers, and any other information needed by faculty to
prepare grant applications.
- Arrange
appointments for faculty to meet with program officers in Washington, DC
to discuss project ideas.
Proposal Development and Submission
- Assist in
developing proposals and concept papers for preliminary evaluation by
granting agency.
- Assist faculty in
developing text of proposals.
- Assist in budget
preparation.
- Provide
assistance with word processing.
- Ensure that
proposals meet agency guidelines and provide all required information.
- Critique and proof-read
proposals prior to submission.
- Supply any
required certifications, assurances, and institutional compliances
required by the granting agency.
- Provide copies of
proposals to appropriate internal offices and expedite campus review.
- Obtain signature
of the president as the official authorized representative of the
university.
- Duplicate
required number of copies and mail to granting agency in time to meet
deadline.
Project Initiation
- Notify
appropriate campus officers and individuals when grant award is
received.
