Professional Interests
My work centers on the intersection of culture, politics, and story-telling. Looking especially at immigrant and ethnic politics in urban communities, it asks how ethnicity figures in competition for public office and, as a result, in the distribution of resources across neighborhoods. Currently, I am exploring the processes of “becoming ‘American’” by examining identity construction, public policy, and social inequalities via stories on citizenship, immigration, education, race, class, and ethnicity.
