WebMail Home Screen

Messages Interface

Sorting Order

The center of the WebMail Message Interface is where you can see all of your E-mail messages. You can see the priority status (  ), any attachments (   ), sender (     ), subject line, date, and message size.

The Message Interface also has some additional options should you need to change the status of an e-mail, its location, or to flag it for later review. Changing any e-mail items (or folders) from the main Message Interface is done by first clicking the check-box  (     ) in front of the message and then choosing an action from the “Actions” drop-down menu are:

Undelete (from Trash)

Expunge (permanently deletes a message from the Trash folder)

Mark As Read (marks a message that may not have been opened as having been read (     )

Mark As Unread (marks a message that may have been opened as having been unread (     )

Flag For Followup (places a flag (     ) next to a sender to remind you that the message requires a “Follow Up”)

Clear Flag (removes the flag from a message).

To move your E-mail to or from another folder, click the check-box (      ) in front of the message and choose a folder from the “Move To Folder…” drop-down menu. You can create new folders if you wish. This will be discussed later.

Check All / Un-Check All

Reading E-Mail

After successfully logging into NEIUport and clicking the “e-mail” icon (          ) the first screen that you will see displays all of your E-mail messages currently in your Inbox folder. New E-mail messages will always be stored here and any of your old messages will stay here until you move them to a different folder or delete them. Additionally, you can see all the other folders listed below your Inbox.

The last functions to discuss are the “Check All” (    ) and “Un-Check All” (    ) icons. These icons allow you to automatically check or un-check all the check-boxes in front of message (or folders) rather than checking them one by one. The “Check All” icon is handy for selecting a column of messages (or folders) to be moved to another folder or to the Trash. “Un-check All” is used when you do not want to select a whole column or messages (or folders) that may have been “checked” for selection.

There are some additional functions on the Message Interface that allow you to change the sorting order of the columns on the Message Interface screen. Each of the main columns has an ascending / descending icon (    /    ) next to the column heading. When a specific column is chosen to be the “active” ascending / descending column, the icon will change from being empty to being to solid (     /    ). It is recommended to sort your messages in descending order (    ) based on when they were received so that your newest e-mails are always first.

When you click on an e-mail message, your message will open and appear similar to the one above. The “Move Message to Folder” drop-down menu allows you to transfer the current message to a different folder or location. To create a new folder, click the “Manage Folders” menu option located below the Inbox folder.
