Socialist and Critical Geography Specialty Group Call for Sponsored Sessions, Association of American Geographers annual meeting March 22-27, 2009, Las Vegas, NV

The Socialist and Critical Geography Specialty Group invites sessions and panels for sponsorship at the 2009 AAG Meeting in Las Vegas. Our specialty group seeks "to promote critical analysis of geographic phenomena, cognizant of geographic research on the well-being of social classes; to investigate the issue of radical change toward a more collective and egalitarian society; and to discover the impact of economic growth upon environmental quality and upon social equity." We particularly welcome praxis-oriented sessions that seek to put analysis into action, including panels that feature activists working outside of the academy.

If you would like to submit your session, please e-mail us (Jenna Loyd, jloyd@gc.cuny.edu) a title, an abstract/CFP, and if you feel it necessary, an additional statement clarifying the relevance of your session to the SCGSG. The deadline for sponsorship is October 7, 2008.

The SCGSG has also set aside a small travel fund for participants from outside the academy and/or those facing financial hardship. If your session is sponsored, you may submit the name of one participant to the SCGSG. The fund will be equally divided between the nominated participants. The deadline for nominations is October 7, and we will notify session organizers of funding availability and amounts by October 15.
