1)PURPOSE: The committee is concerned with all matters affecting the physical facilities and the operation and use of the building. Its purpose is to offer advice and to make recommendations on space allocation, upkeep, maintenance, repair, and any other pertinent matters. Such advice/recommendations will be made to the Dean, the Director of Physical acilities, or the Provost, as is appropriate.
2) MEMBERSHIP: The voting membership shall consist of representatives (or designated alternates) from each of the present or former (pre-merger) academic departments whose chairs/coordinators are located in the Science Building. The Dean's Office shall have an ex-officio representative.
3) OFFICERS: Chair, Vice-Chair, and Secretary, to be elected by the members at the first meeting of the academic year. The term of office shall be one year, but officers may succeed themselves.
4) ORGANIZATION: Each September the previous year's Chair shall schedule an organizational meeting, with sufficient lead time for the chairs/coordinators to be notified and asked to have their departments select representatives. The Dean's Office shall also be notified and asked to select a representative. If the previous year's Chair is unable or unwilling to convene the committee, that duty shall be assumed by the previous year's Vice-Chair.
5) MEETINGS: The committee shall meet as often as is necessary, as various matters come to its attention, but at least once a month during the regular academic year.
COMMENT: I think there's more than enough business to warrant monthly meetings, especially since there will always be an option of canceling if there really is nothing on the agenda. I want to be sure that we don't fall into inactivity, but I'll be glad to discuss alternative language if there are serious objections to this paragraph.
6) OTHER MATTERS: Robert's Rules of Order shall control in any
case that is not addressed in these bylaws.
