SCIENCE BUILDING ADVISORY GROUP
The Science Building Advisory Group was formed in 1998 to help in the
planning and management of space in the Science Building of Northeastern
Illinois University in Chicago. Members consist of faculty from each
of the academic units housed in the Science Building. The SBAG chairperson
is also Building Coordinator: the contact person for facilities management
for issues related to the building. One of the committee's main functions
is to disseminate information about the building to its users, and also
to collect and pass on issues of concern as they arise.
The Committee meets monthly Fall and Spring terms.
Its functions include the following:
-
disseminate information from facilities management and others to the users
of the building
-
for example, schedules for painting or repairs
-
provide a central collection point for requests relating to room usage
or other facility issues
-
for example, requests for office space, storage space, lab space, repairs,
lighting, hallway furniture, etc.
-
pass requests and information on to the appropriate administrative unit
-
for example, better lighting in the student lounge, rearrangement of
a classroom, or improved access after hours
-
encourage departments to cooperate to resolve issues or disputes
-
for example, to help negotiate a trade of space or mediate a disagreement
-
to participate in planning which affects the building
-
for example, members may attend meetings relating to the reconfiguration
of the entry way
-
to keep appraised of space usage
-
for example in Spring of 2001 members undertook a walk-through to inventory
room usage
