General Questions Student Health Services

What do I do in the event of an emergency?

  • While we encourage students to come see us for their basic health concerns, it is ALWAYS important to remember that our office is not equipped to handle medical emergencies.

Who is eligible to receive health services at NEIU?

  • Students must be currently enrolled at NEIU, with a valid NEIU I.D., in order to receive services from Student Health Services. Students do not need to be covered under NEIU's Student Health Insurance Plan in order to use these services. The Student Health Service fee supports our office.

What services are provided to students by Health Services?

  • Assessment
  • Basic First Aid
  • Care of Minor Illness
  • Emergency Contraception
  • Equipment/Video Loan
  • Nutrition Guidance
  • Smoking Cessation
  • Suture Removal

Is an appointment required for service?

  • An appointment is needed (see Appointment Scheduling) for all services except over-the-counter medications (such as aspirin) and basic first aid.

What tests are offered to students?

  • Blood pressure
  • Blood Sugar
  • Cholesterol
  • Dipstick Urinalysis - check for infection
  • Hemoglobin - check for anemia
  • HIV-GC/Chlamydia
  • Pregnancy
  • Rapid Strep A
  • Tuberculosis (TB)

Do students need to be covered under NEIU's Student Health Insurance Plan in order to use their services?

  • No. Your Student Health Service fee supports our office.

Are students able to obtain free condoms from Health Services?

  • Yes. Male condoms, female condoms, dental dams, lubricant and latex-free male condoms are available.

Are students able to obtain birth control through Health Services?

  • Yes. Make an appointment with our Advanced Practice Nurse (see Appointment Scheduling).

Are female students able to obtain a Pap test at Health Services?

  • Yes. Make an appointment with our Advanced Practice Nurse (see Appointment Scheduling).

Are students able to be tested for tuberculosis at Health Services?

Are there special activities offered to students during finals week?

  • The Stress-Free Zone is provided during Finals week as a place for students to relax and reduce the stress of exams.

Are students able to obtain the meningitis vaccine?
