Installation:
Creates a default manager in cpoll directory, with mildly random password.
Newly created cpoll files use this default manager.
Copies cpam to home directory. This is the Cpoll Account Manager program, which allows easy updating of the default manager, and easy creation of cpoll and user files. Copies doc files to http/cpoll directory, for manager's access. Emails account with summary info about installation, including the default manager info. Login:
New cpoll files use the default manager.
This can be overridden in any cpoll file by setting the Mgr parameter.
Manager Page:
Layout improved for readability, and the primary manager functions
are marked. The sequence and grouping of several links has been improved.
Setup Log now reports user counts and user record counts for the cpoll file and any user files, along with totals and the 'All Users' value. This helps identify any inadvertent duplicate User ID's within and across files. Email Users now not allowed unless the manager's Name and E-addr are set. Email Users links are now combined into one link with choices in a select box. This select box also includes a new option - email users only from the cpoll main file, which is useful for sending test emails before a main mailing. List All Posts function now has a select box with several types of posts selectable for listing. Technical links, at the end of the page, are now not shown unless the ReportExecTimes parameter is set to 'yes'. Edit Parameters and Edit User File Pages:
Both pages revised to place the text edit box closer to the top,
so that page scrolling is minimized. Problem fixed on both -
previously a trailing ' ; ' on a line would cause the line
to join with the next line after the Edit submit.
Edit Parameters page has two documentation links near the top. One is for Parameter Notes, the other for Buttons, Backgrounds and Colors. Changed MgrID or Password, on the Edit Parameters page, no longer requires a re-login. This is now done automatically for the manager. Email Users:
Open & close dates are shown in the message box on the email users form,
if either one is set. This reminds the manager of their current setting,
and if the manager keeps this line in the email message, reminds the users
of when the cpoll is open.
Sent email From line now uses the manager's Name and E-addr, instead of the Type and manager's E-addr. Sent email is logged to the cpoll file by default, unless the new LogEmailSent parameter is set to no. Before any email is sent, the email details are logged to the file; after all emails are sent, a summary is then logged to the file. This log can be viewed with the List All Posts link on the manager page. Queued email is marked as such in the email send log, but at NEIU this appears never to be triggered, even when mail is actually queued. New parameter SetEmailFromAddr, when set to yes, will use the manager's email address as the 'from' address for each email. This will cause any bad non-NEIU addressed email to be returned to the manager's email address. But this may cause authentication problems with some addresses, so the default for this parameter is 'no'. Parameter Changes:
Type replaces Name. Name still allowed for backward compatibility.
QuestionStart added. LogEmailSent added. SetEmailFromAddr added. Poll Display Page:
View Comments link, if any, now shows the number of comments,
in the link name, to help users identify large comment groups.
View Comments Window displays any text starting with http:// as a hyperlink, which when clicked opens into a new window. Documentation:
Cpoll Main page revised, with manager details split off into
a separate "Manager Notes" page.
Cpoll Manager Notes updated to describe the use of 'cpam' to easily create cpoll and user files, and to update the default manager. Cpoll Lite page enhanced with more parameter details and options, eliminating the need for a separate Cpoll Lite parameter list. Buttons, Backgrounds and Colors page has two color tables and an added linnenbeige background image. |

Manager Page:
Web based editing of parameters and user files
is implemented thru text edit boxes.
This feature eliminates ftp-ing of files and the
problem of incompatible file types (PC, Unix, Mac).
Behavior Change:
When a user submits a poll page and they've entered or changed nothing,
and the Response parameter is MsgPage, a warning msg is given along with
a button to return to the poll page. Previously the ResponseMsg was given,
along with the Return button (if this button was specified).
Parameter Changes:
PreText default changed from 4 medium dots to nothing.
Add QuizCount option for the ReportFormat parameter. Also, quiz results are automatically shown, when displayed, in the warning color. |
