Riding the road requires your full attention. There is traffic, and at this time of the year there are a few campers travelling the route. No doubt many are rented, and driven by inexperienced drivers. At times the road is very close to the edge of a cliff, sometimes high and sometimes near sea level. I was travelling alone, for which I was grateful because I didn't need to worry about anyone other than myself. If you take this route in a group, I would strongly suggest you travel individually, leave plenty of room, 1/2 mile or more, between riders and not travel in clusters.
