Immaculate Conception
Vatican II Council Effects
Interior View of Immaculate Conception
Before Vatican II
In 1967, there was a meeting of the Roman Catholic
Church which was named Vatican II Council. One of the results of
this meeting was a friendlier and simpler way of church life. Some
major changes occurred in the services themselves. For example, previously
the mass was said in Latin and after Vatican II it was changed to
vernacular languages, like English, Spanish, and Polish. Previously,
during services the priest would have his back towards the worshipers and
after Vatican II the priest would be facing the people whom he was talking
to. In seminaries and convents, before this change, nuns and
priests would punish themselves for impurities. After this change
took place the punishments stopped. The altars of the churches were also
changed into more simpler and less ornate altars. This is shown in
the interior pictures of Immaculate Conception before and after the changes
took place.
