Hegewisch Schools Introduction

Schools have been a major part of the development in the community of Hegewisch.  Hegewisch has both public and private schools that were built to serve the children's needs.  The private schools that have served this community are St. Florian and St. Columba.  Henry Clay school is the oldest public schools that served this community.  Grissom Elementary School, a Chicago Public School, was built to serve the needs of the Avalon Trails neighborhood, a post WWII housing development.
