George Washington High School

    This aerial view of Washington High School and the surrounding area of the East Side community was taken in the late 1970's.  At the top of the photo (view toward the east) is Eggers Grove Forest Preserve and to the east and north are parts of the residential areas of the neighborhood.  Also near the top left hand portion of the picture is St. Simeon Serbian Orthodox church.  South of the school is Rowan Park and wetlands areas which have currently been partially replaced with a shopping mall and additional residences.  The property west of the school acroos Avenue O was formerly part of Republic Steel.
