East Side Schools Introduction
The East Side community has many schools in
its area. The first school to be built on the East Side, was a private
school, established in 1874. It was organized by a Lutheran group,
the Colehour German Lutheran Church and had fifteen students, and by 1884,
had eighty-six students from fifty-eight families. The first public school
on the East Side was opened in 1877 in a small one room building and named
in the honor of the towns prominent citizens, M. W. Gallistel. Many other
schools were built in the area during that time. Most of the schools
in the area are public, but there are also a few private schools in the
area.
