Use of the Library Classroom and Lounge


The Library classrooms are primarily reserved for the use of the library instruction programs and for Library related meetings. On occasion, non-library related events may be held in the rooms. Library staff are defined as Library faculty, Library staff, or the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) staff which includes Enhancing Teaching and Learning through Technology.

  1. The Lower Level Library Classroom and the 3rd Floor Classroom may be reserved for library instruction sessions, ETLT presentations, or CTL presentations if a Library staff member will be present when the session is held. The Library staff member will be responsible for operating the workstation and all the equipment available on the podium and opening and closing the room. A reservation notebook, located at Reference, is available to reserve the room for a particular date and time.

  2. The Lower Level Library Classroom and the 3rd Floor Classroom may be reserved for official University-related meetings by a member of the Library staff if the Library staff member will be present for the meeting. A reservation notebook, located at Reference, is available to reserve the room for a particular date and time. The Library staff member will be responsible for operating the workstation and all the equipment available on the podium and opening and closing the room.

  3. The 3rd Floor and Lower Level Library Classroom may be reserved for official University-related meetings by a Library staff member, even though no Library staff member will be present for the meeting. Use of the workstation and all the equipment available on the podium is NOT allowed since staff cannot provide instruction in the use of the equipment. A reservation notebook, located at Reference, is available to Library staff to reserve the room for a particular date and time. In addition, the Library staff shall fill out a Library Room Reservation Form before the meeting in order to inform the staff that the classroom door should be unlocked and closed after the meeting. Forms are available in the Library Office.

  4. Staff from the Learning Center, Mathematics Lab, and Reading Lab may request to use the 3rd Floor Library Classroom and the Lower Level Library Lounge for gatherings or tutoring sessions which will be attended by large groups. They shall ask a Library staff member to make the reservation. The Library staff will follow procedures dictated in Paragraph 3.

  5. Use of all rooms by University personnel from outside the Library is NOT permitted if the rooms have not been reserved by a Library staff person following procedures in Paragraph 3.

  6. All rooms are NOT available for repeated use by regularly scheduled classes, including the use of them to view videos using the overhead projector.

  7. All rooms are NOT available for any kind of use by non-University personnel.

  8. The University Library Administration may make exceptions to these policies after discussing the particular situation with appropriate University personnel.
