IX. Teaching Faculty Liaisons - Function and Role

Bibliographers communicate regularly with a designated liaison from each academic department in order to provide the ongoing formal and informal contacts necessary for the Library to build and maintain a collection which will support the curriculum of the University and for the Library to design and establish other Library services. Academic department chairpersons name the liaisons. While primary responsibility for the content of the Library collections belongs to the bibliographer, dialog between the teaching faculty and the Library bibliographer is needed and strongly encouraged.

Responsibilities of Teaching Faculty Liaisons

Designated teaching faculty liaisons for each fund are responsible for a number of activities. These include:

• communicating regularly with the designated bibliographer and encouraging communication from all faculty in their academic department with the Library;
• distributing communications from the Library to members of their departments;
• consulting with the designated bibliographer and the Library administrators concerning future academic directions, programmatic needs, and course offerings in the academic department,;
• keeping bibliographers informed of developments in the curriculum offered by the department and their possible impact upon the Library, and recommending alternative acquisition levels to support the curriculum in order to provide adequate library services and resources;
• offering recommendations concerning ongoing revision of the Collection Management policy and the approval program.
