APPENDIX 6 - Gifts

GIFT POLICY

The Ronald Williams Library is pleased to accept gifts provided there are no restrictions on their disposition, use, or location. Gifts will be acknowledged in writing by the University Foundation. The Library will not appraise gifts for income tax purposes.

Gifts From Private Donors
The Ronald Williams Library accepts gifts from current or former NEIU faculty, staff and students. It does not seek gifts from donors unaffiliated with NEIU. It only adds gifts to the collection which are particularly significant. All donors should contact the Collections Program Officer in the Library Administration Office at x2615 or the appropriate subject bibliographer. After the Library has agreed to review significant donations, they should be sent to Acquisitions, Attention of a particular bibliographer. All gifts not added to the NEIU collection will be counted by Acquisitions, acknowledged by the University Foundation, and stored for the book sale.

Transport to the library: Gifts donated to the Ronald Williams Library by private donors should be delivered or sent to Acquisitions on the first floor of the Library. The Library will not pickup donations from University offices or from locations off campus. However, donors can make arrangements with Facilities Management at x2878 to pick up boxed items from university offices.

Bibliographers will make decisions concerning gifts and will use the following guidelines to add materials:

Gifts From Publishers Or Organizations
New gifts from publishers or organizations will be placed on the bibliographers' shelves for their review. Gifts from publishers or other organizations will not be acknowledged.

Periodicals
The Library no longer accepts used periodicals. They will not be counted, acknowledged, or offered in the book sale. New gifts from publishers are generally received in Periodicals and shelved in the sample area for one year. After one year, they are discarded if a bibliographer has not initiated a current subscription of the title.

Unsuitable Types Of Gifts
The Library does not accept the following types of gifts: materials in poor physical condition, class notes, brochures, or personal files. Such gifts will not be counted or acknowledged.
