The University Without Walls
(UWW) Program is a competency-based degree program that leads to a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science degree from Northeastern Illinois University. It was created to assist adult learners in designing and completing an approved individualized curriculum. Students enrolled in the program gain academic recognition for previously acquired
college level knowledge and skills. They learn to integrate theoretical and practical knowledge and skills as they achieve educational goals and objectives. Each student's UWW program incorporates both on-campus and off-campus learning experiences and is designed by the student in collaboration with academic and community advisors.
If you are highly motivated and have clear academic direction, the UWW Program can meet your needs, interests, and long-range goals.
UWW offers a high quality undergraduate program to a wide
variety of students and aims to develop students into
lifelong learners. Graduation is based on demonstrated competencies, not credit hours.
Only students who meet the departmental requirements for accounting, biology, chemistry, computer science, earth science, finance, marketing, management, or physics are eligible for the Bachelor of Science degree. Teacher certification is not available to UWW participants.
The UWW Program is only open to students who are pursuing their first bachelor's degree.
UWW serves a population which is diverse in age, culture, language, and race. There are about
50 students enrolled in the University Without Walls Program.
