Fall 10 questions

  1. How does college differ from high school?
Ans. College differ from high school for several reasons. First, college requires more independent study and move at a much faster pace. Also, it requires more and greater critical thinking. There are very few chances for evaluation so, keeping up with coursework is a much bigger demand than high school. Last, there is more freedom and with that comes responsibility to manage your time effectively. (by Tommy)
Basically, in college, there is a lot more independence. In high school, there are stricter rules on attendance, and teachers walk their students through the material. In college, students need to learn time management skills because work is assigned, and there is no one to ensure it gets done. Also, students in college need to have more self-discipline, because studying and reading text materials is done primarily independently. (by Nicole)
  2. How can you succeed in college?
Ans: Students can succeed in college by learning time management skills, and then applying them to studying, sleeping, working, etc. It.s very important in college not to overload yourself with too many things. Work is something that gets in the way of college students succeeding, so try to limit work hours. Also, prepare for things in advance; do not cram everything into one night. Students who do that are less likely to remember the material. Also, set aside a designated time for studying each day, and try not to let outside distractions influence that time.
  3. What are some situations you may encounter as a college student?
Ans: There could be many obstacles that you may encounter as a college student. First, time management is one of the most important difficulties you may face. Many courses may demand lots of studying and coursework. Another important key is maintaining motivation for academics. It is very important not to fall behind in a course because of lack of interest. Finally, students may get involved in too many responsibilities which may affect their performance in classes.
  4. How can students be active learners?
Ans: Students can be active learners by simply being involved with what the school offers outside of class and on the campus. There are libraries with books to use for research and computers to study online. By doing so, its adding more learning to the mind. Being active can also be involved with your physical self, working out at the gym and becoming healthy and in shape. Being in clubs and organizations helps to learn more about the campus and the different students older or younger.
  5. What are the benefits of being an active learner?
Being an active learner results in having strong mentality, impressive grades and being known for who you are as a student. Also it makes you become more interactive with the members of the school, with other students, teachers and staff. It should enhance the thirst for more knowledge of what the future holds in store and how to pursue it. Active learners are more motivated to continue on their path of what they want to achieve. Then later on they will have gained the experience and knowledge they need to excel in the working world. (by David)

  8. How can you manage yourself and manage time?
Ans: To manage yourself, you have to treat college like a full time job. You have to choose a class schedule that's fit for yourself. This means if you're not a morning person, then take classes that are in the afternoon or in the evening. If you have work in the evening, then take classes in the morning. Lastly, go to class! Although some professors don't take attendance it is still crucial to go to every lecture to stay in track of things happening in class. To manage your time, you need to ask yourself three things: what do you need to accomplish? What things do you do right now that waste your time? Lastly, how can you keep track of what you need to do? These things will help you stay on tack.
  9. What are the differences between good time managers and bad time managers?
Ans: Good time managers study when they are most alert, spend time on their course work everyday, create a schedule, make reading schedules, prioritize their work, make to do lists, and use time between classes to study. Bad time managers study whenever they are in the mood, study the night before the exam, don't make schedules, read the night before the exam, do what they "like" first and put off other things, forget they had homework because they never write it down, and they don't use the time before class to study. (Maha)

The teacher would discuss what assignments are to be turned in and the upcoming quizzes and exam. Also writing important notes is one way to stay on task because not everything on the syllabus is going to go according how it is. There are going to be changes. So writing those changes helps the students organize their task better. And last is to consult with the syllabus because it is good to know what the next step of learning whether its another lesson or when to review for a midterm or final. (by David)
  27. What do we mean by task?
