 Keynote Speaker: Barbara Neely

Barbara Neely is a novelist, short story writer, and author of the popular Blanche White mystery novels., Barbara Neely is part of a growing number of female African-American mystery writers who are gaining a wide audience with their compelling whodunits set in black America. With her debut novel in 1992, Blanche On the Lam, Ms. Neely won the Agatha, the Macavity, and the Anthony awards, as well as the "Go On Girl!" Book Club award for a debut novel. The subsequent books in the series, Blanche Among the Talented Tenth (1995), Blanche Cleans Up (1998), and Blanche Passes Go (2001), have also received critical acclaim. Ms. Neely has a long has had an extensive public sector career including her work as a radio producer for African News Service, and host of Commonwealth Journal, a radio interview program in Massachusetts.
