Re: College Minor Ð Math for Middle School Teachers
Dear
Undoubtedly, many of your high school students are setting their sights on becoming teachers, and some of them even may be considering teaching middle school (6th to 8th grade) math or science. The NEIU Partnership has a tremendous opportunity for them Ð a sequence of linked math and science courses that are specific to the middle school curriculum. Through the coursework, students will earn a math minor, as well as fulfill some of general education requirements for Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU), Truman College, and Wright College.
Other significant features of the sequence are that classes are small, therefore offering students a great deal of support, and are held at all three partnership sites Ð NEIU, Truman, and Wright. In addition, the instructors, who come from the three campuses, teach and model the methods their students will use someday in their own classrooms.
Enclosed are some materials to help you understand the program better. I would love to call on your school to speak with you and your students about this opportunity, perhaps through a future teachers club or a gathering of students interested in teaching as a career. For more information or to schedule a visit, please contact me at 773-907-4721 or at nsullivan@ccc.edu.
