Body,Mind,Spirit
I am involved in several activities which give me an opportunity to combine
body, mind, spirit--walking, gardening, yoga, martial arts, and self defense.
I am working on developing relevant links to these activities. See below
for a beginning.
I have been studying Seido karate with Nancy Lanoue and Sarah Ludden at
Thousand Waves since 1991.
I promoted to shodan (first degree black belt)
in February 1999 and to nidan (second degree black belt) in 2001. From 1999-
2001, I also assisted in the karate kids program at Thousand
Waves. Check out related links by clicking on martial arts above.
Below is a photo of my teachers Kyoshi Nancy Lanoue and Sensei Sarah Ludden
and the three of us who promoted to nidan together--Wai Kwok, Sally Alatalo,
and me.

I have been an IMPACT self defense instructor since 1988. Check out related
links here.
I started studying Hatha Yoga with Tracy Von Kaenel at Galter Life Center
in August 1997. Check out related links.
Gardening
I have been a "weekend" gardener for several years, first
planting vegetables and in recent years expanding to herbs and flowers.
Diane, a colleague, friend, and avid gardener, moved from her home
of 25 years in Chicago and offered her perennials to several friends and
colleagues because the people buying her home planned to plow under the
garden. What a great foundation for a perennial garden--day lilies, delphenium,
iris, black-eyed susans, bee balm, coneflowers! I have since benefitted
from the generosity and inspiration of friends, colleagues, and neighbors to expand my
perennial garden--Ann, Jacquie, Jill, Joan, Laura, Linda, Nancy, Robin, Sarah,
Shelley, and Wamucci.
