Who has to take the NEIU Math Placement Test?

Freshman students without ACT test scores and students transferring to Northeastern without a grade of C or higher in Intermediate Algebra from another college or university need to take the NEIU placement exam.

What does a MATH PERMIT do?

A Math Permit for a course verifies the course pre-requisite and sets a seat aside for the student in a particular class section. It will only allow you to register for that section and is valid only through Late Registration. Permit authorizations are cancelled prior to the first day of class.

What is Math Competency?

The Math Competency Requirement is earning a grade of “C” or higher in a class that has pre-requisite of Intermediate Algebra. In most instances, your choice of major will direct your college mathematics.

How Do I Get Help with my Math Course?

Make sure you help yourself with an organized study plan which includes time management. Your best resource is your classroom instructor. Don’t work alone, find a friend . The Math Lab can answer questions, but can not replace classroom lecture and problem solving. Check with the Math Lab to see what learning resources and media are also available. If you are having serious and repeated difficulty in course work, contact your Academic Advisor and Thomas Blackburn, Math Development Coordinator.

How Important are Course Pre-Requisites?

Self-advising yourself into a class without the proper pre-requisite is a very dangerous academic practice that can cost you time and money. Work with an Academic Advisor.
