Due Nov. 8, before 5 pm:  Presentation outline. Please email, as an MS Word attachment, to L-Rueckert@neiu.edu. If you later make changes before the actual presentation, please get that to me by email, at least 3 days before your presentation.

Due 3 days before your presentation:  Your PowerPoint presentation (email to me as an attachment).

Your presentation should last about 15 minutes, with 5 minutes additional to be devoted to discussion and question / answer.  You must use PowerPoint.  It's generally easiest if you can get everything in PowerPoint, but if you have overheads, slides, or videos that cannon be easily imported to PowerPoint, that you think would add to your presentation, you can use them.  All of these materials will contribute to part of your grade.  (If you plan to use slides or videos, I need to know a few days in advance to order the equipment from Audiovisual).

Your presentation will not simply be a summary of your paper. In fact, it may be quite different. It will probably be a subset of your paper.  It should be centered around one or two studies that you find particularly interesting. If you cover more than one study, it would be easiest if they were somehow related to each other. The ideal situation would be two studies on the same topic, such as an original and a follow-up study.  You should start with a very brief overview of things that some one would need to know in order to understand the purpose of the studies. Most of the background information on the topic will probably already have been covered in class. Then, give a brief description of the study’s method and results, presenting graphs on overheads when appropriate. An example will be given in class.

A good way to organize your outline would be around the overheads or slides that you will present. For example:

Slide 1.Title of the presentation and your name.

Slide 2.List a few background facts that lead up to the study you’re goingto discuss.

Slide 3.Title and authors of the study.

Slide 4.List of the important aspects of the method (may require more than 1 slide)

Slide 5.List of the most important results (may require more than 1 slide)

Other slides:graphs of the results

Slide 6.Conclusions

Slide 7.Questions for future study.
