Before tasting the colas, 14 participants reported that they preferred Coke, and 13 reported that they preferred Pepsi. The difference was not significant, c2 (1, N = 27) = .037, p = .65. One participant did not indicate a preference. After tasting the colas, 15 participants chose Coke, and 13 chose Pepsi. This difference was also nonsignificant, c2 (1, N = 28) = .333, p = .53.
To determine whether there was any relationship between the pretest preference and the posttest preference, a c2 test of independence, with correction for continuity, was calculated. The result was not significant, c2 (1, N = 27) = .029, p = .85, showing that subjects were not able to accurately predict which cola they would prefer in the blind taste test. Order of tasting had no effect.
