This assignment is based on a chapter called “Formal thought and relational judgements” by Jean Piaget. You may find some parts of the article difficult to understand, but you should be able to understand enough to answer the following questions (typed, double-spaced):

1. Describe the errors made by children on the “Friday” test. According to Piaget, why do children make these types of errors?

2. Describe the errors made by children on the “3 brothers” problem. According to Piaget, why do children make these types of errors?

3. What, according to Piaget, is the basic problem that young children have that makes it difficult for them to reason about relations on these types of tests?

4. What do you think of Piaget’s methods? Can you think of other explanations for his results?
