“Resources Hunt”

 

Goal of the Assignment:  To become familiar with the various requirements, and services and resources available at Northeastern Illinois University.

 

Relationship to General Education Goals:

Goal 2: The skills required to gather, analyze, document, and integrate information.

 

Structure of the Assignment:  For this assignment, you will work in teams of 2-3 people, assigned by your instructor. In order to answer the following questions, you will be required to visit different locations (e.g., offices).

 

*Students at CICS and El Centro should endeavor to identify comparable offices at the Center, but it will not be necessary to visit Main Campus to obtain evidence; nonetheless, the assignment requires that you gather information by using whatever means are available (e.g., NEIU website, University catalog).

 

1. There are two options available for students to fulfill the NEIU requirement for the Constitution test. What are they?

  

2. What is the telephone number for phone registration (i.e., Touchtone Registration) and where can it be found?

3. If your instructor has a read “on reserve,” where would you find it in the library?

4. How many computer labs are there on campus and where are they locate? 

 

5. Out of 53 student organizations at NEIU, name four and indicate where they are located; provide a web address (i.e., URL), if available. 

 

6. Where is the Student Employment Office located? What two types of jobs does NEIU offer? 

 

7. Where can you go to get help writing papers? Identify the campus location. Is an appointment necessary?

8. When you need to register for, or obtain results from, a placement exam, where do you need to go? Identify where it is located and the name of the coordinator.

9. Identify the location of the offices and the coordinators for the following:

10. What is required to use the Physical Education gymnasium facilities and equipment (as a student)?

 

11. Where is the Financial Aid Office and who is the financial aid advisor for freshman?

 

12. Where is the Foreign Language Lab located?

 

13. Where is the Student Activities Office? What number can you call for a weekly listing of activities at NEIU?

14. Some classes require a permit (i.e., authorization) before you can register. For each of the following, identify where you would obtain the permit and indicate the program coordinator.
