Homework #9                                                                                                                      Sanders

This assignment is due November 29, 2001.

1.  Collect data on peak discharge for your gage for all the years on record.

2.  Rank order the discharges.

3.  Calculate recurrence interval (R) for each discharge by using the formula R = (N + 1) / M,
where N = the number of years of records and M = the rank of any given discharge.

4.  Calculate probability (p) for each discharge using the formula p = 1/R.

5.  Construct a probability graph of discharge versus probability.  Use the graph paper provided.
With the holes at the top, use the upper scale (not the lower scale!) for the probability x-axis
(the correct, upper scale begins with 99.99 on the left, and ends with 0.01 on the right).  Remember
     that the probabilities are percentages--so 99.99 means 99.99%, 50 means 50%, and 0.01
     means 0.01% (not 1%!)

Bring the tabulated data and the graph to class on November 29.
