By the end of today's class, you should be able to do the following:

EVAPORATION

w Review:  Using the Illinois State Climatologist data, determine the pan evaporation station(s) that best represent(s) your watershed; collect and tabulate evaporation values for your watershed (don't forget about the pan coefficient!), and determine the volume of water evaporated annually from open water surfaces in your watershed. 

EVAPOTRANSPIRATION

w
Explain how evapotranspiration differs from evaporation.

w List and describe the factors that affect transpiration rates. 

w Explain the similarities and differences between pan evaporation, potential evapotranspiration (PET), and actual evapotranspiration (AET).

w List and describe approaches for estimating AET for a watershed.

w See the lysimeter photos from the USDA Agricultural Research Service Northern Appalachian Experimental Watershed Laboratory (Coshocton, Ohio--see p. 94 in your textbook).
