By the end of today's class, you should be able to do the following:


w 
Describe the areas of study encompassed by "geotechnical engineering".

w  Find the course materials on the web.

w  Review the list "What should you bring to this course?" on the course website.

w  Find the class wiki, log in, and edit a page.  (Note:  First, you will need to be authorized and create an account.  To become authorized, send me your e-mail address.  I will authorize you, and Google will send you an e-mail with a link in it.  Click the link, create an account, and you're in!)

w  Describe what the Association of Environmental and Engineering Geoscientists is and does.

w  List examples of structures humans build on Earth materials, structures we build in Earth materials, and ways we sculpt the Earth's surface.  All of these involve geotechnical engineering!
