  • List the processes that transport contaminants through the subsurface.
  • List the processes that cause contaminant concentration in the subsurface to change.
  • <>List and describe properties of contaminants that can affect their movement through the subsurface.
  • Given information about the properties of a particular contaminant, predict how it will behave in the subsurface.

v Ground Water Contamination and Remediation

What does our model tell us about the movement of contaminants through the flow system?   What doesn't it tell us?  What properties and characteristics of contaminants might affect their movement?

What happens to a chemical when it is introduced into the subsurface?  How might it be transported?  What processes affect its transport?

What contaminant properties affect how a contaminant moves?

Research particular contaminants of interest, with particular attention to the properties we have discussed.  Find the linked Excel file here (this is Homework #7).
