DAILY OBJECTIVES |
On
Thursday, you will need to have in-class
resources with you to help you work with your
Rock Your State! rock types. You should
a) Research your rock types before coming to class,
b) Bring a wi-fi laptop or your textbook, or
c) Both!
By the end of
today's class, you should be able to do the
following:

Review: Describe some of the characteristics of minerals
that allow us to classify them and discern their
properties, including luster,
color, hardness, specific
gravity, streak, cleavage, and
solubility.
w
Review:
Demonstrate how to use a mineral
identification key.
w
List the characteristics that define a material
referred to as a mineral.
w
Describe the characteristics of the following
mineral groups, and give an example of each:

* evaporite
minerals: carbonates, sulfates,
chlorides |

oxides |
* pure
elements (e.g. sulfur, copper, carbon) |
